Hiragana and Katakana

Japanese has 3 writing systems: Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji (Chinese character). Important information in Japan are displayed in Kanji everywhere, and Katakana is more common in restaurants and foreign words.

Hiragana and Katakana are the ABCs of Japanese language. So far the best resource I would recommend is by Japan Society:

There is no shortcut, no quick way.

There is no shortcut, I hand write all of them every day for a while until I remember them by heart. You can also find a song you like with lyrics and sing along. Find how your favorite things / places written in Hiragana, et cetera.

The first wall of learning Japanese is Hiragana and Katakana. You should never read with romaji from day 1.
